Description Unknown 2002-05-14 05:29:27 UTC
Excel allows error bars for chart datapoints to be + or - a fixed value, a fixed
percentage or to take their values from cells. The lack of this last feature in
calc is the only area i've found were excel stil has an edge over openoffice.
Unfortunately i really need this feature for the work i do where error bar
values are derived from fairly complex calculations rather than just being
simple percentages.

Another note on this is that in Impress, where the data comes from the
very simple data editor, error bars need to be functional too, so the
solution to this problem should not be a reference to cells in a
spreadsheet. Instead, similar to the Stock Charts, you should be able
to put the error value as a third column in an XY chart.

Incidentally, you can fake error bars by use of the Stock Chart
option, adding and subtracting the error bars from the mean, then
making the lines that connect them invisible. It's still not perfect
-- the bars don't have horizontal lines at the top and bottom, and the
stock chart annoyingly has Y-axis labels on both the right and the
left, but it leads me to think that a solution to this problem (which
seems to be a longstanding deficiency) would not be seriously
difficult to implement.

Thanks!

Isn't this issue somewhat related to 366 ?
I guess they could be merged together...
Comment 4 harlan879 2003-01-21 16:44:03 UTC
Yes, I think this is essentially the same issue as bug 366. I would
want to reiterate the comment from 366 that this is a serious
limitation on OO Impress' usability for scientific audiences. Wish I
had time to contribute code!

I find this issue reasonable to have but AFAIK it is not on our
roadmap to 2.0.
Nevertheless I think Bettina should raise this issue with the Chart Team.

Hello Björn, I set it to OO.o Later.

We will bear this feature in mind.
Comment 9 ndeschildre 2004-12-05 12:28:48 UTC
Is this feature planned for OO.o 2.0 ?
It is definitely _the_ missing feature for scientists. If it is implemented, i
will finally be able to fully switch to OO.o.

Thanks guys for your great work!
