Description vincentsteinier 2008-05-20 14:21:08 UTC
My users receive a Microsoft Word document containing drop down list fields.
When I save a document with Writer in .doc format, the field content is lost
and the drop down list is emptied. If I save in .odt it works fine.

MRU->HBRINKM: the content of input lists is not exported to WW8 format. See
attached document - try to export to WW8 format and reopen in Writer.
Maybe this is related to issue 59043 - this deals about the content of simple
input fields.

Easy way how to simulate tihs bug (OO.org 3.0):
1) Start OO.org
2) Select Text Document
3) From main menu select Insert->Fields->Other, Functions Tab
 - add 3 items for example
 - press Insert button then Close button
4) From main menu select File->Save as
 - type name of the document (aaa for example)
 - select type of the document as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)
 - press Keep current format button
5) close document
6) reopen ducument - all text in the drop list is lost

This export works wine in OO.org version 2.2, this bug appears from versin 2.3+
Tested on MS Win XP, Linux

@hbrinkm: Please have look at issue 100621. I think this issue is partly fixed
but issue 100621 happens instead...
- 3.0: all list entries are lost
- since 3.0.1: only the default value is not set as saved.

Comment 11 quzhengxi 2009-09-18 05:15:30 UTC
Zhengxi Qu, 9/16/09, tried to reproduce the problem:

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
Steps:
-Open OOo Writer
-Select Insert->Fields->Other-Functions
-Select Input list in Type tab
-Add 2 or more items by typing in the item input frame and clicking Add
-Click Insert, then click Close
-Select File->Save as
-Save the file as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc), for example aaa.doc
-When the pop-up window appears, click Keep Current Format button
-Close document
-Reopen ducument

Text change in the drop list is lost
Comment 12 marcis 2009-09-18 14:35:09 UTC
Contrarily to the previous user, while testing 3.1.1, I found out that dropdown
list contents (and choice) stayed on in my test document.

When reopening the file in Writer or Word 2007, the lists stayed. If opening
the file in Word 97 however, the list was gone.

I should point out however that this is a customer supplied form and it was
most likely created under word but old versions of Writer cleared the dropdown
list choices and content while 3.1.1 one does not. A list created from scratch
in Writer 3.1.1 might behave differently.
Comment 13 jlrowe 2009-09-22 15:35:12 UTC
I now find that the export to MSWord 97/2000/XP is not saving checks in
checkboxs either.
Comment 14 alexkurd 2010-08-02 19:53:26 UTC
Openoffice 2.2.1 is the last version without this bug.
Comment 15 uticdmarceau2007 2010-08-29 12:10:57 UTC
I was on ubuntu 9.10 and openoffice was running and saving contents correctly
into word 2000/xp format. I need to do this in order to conform at work.

After installing ubuntu 10.04, openoffice also had a newer version here and I
harmlessly updated. It turns out oo3.2 has given me stress and for the past two
weeks my boss has been disappointed with me because I keep on sending him empty
word2000xp formatted lesson plans that seem to be full when I open them in
openoffice.

All I can say is I have the latest ubuntu 10.04 updates and the file save as
word 2000xp produces an original template with the fields I entered not
appearing on the windows box. THAT'S STRESSFUL. IT'S EMPTY IN THE PERSPECTIVE
OF MY BOSS.
