Description triple_p 2008-04-26 21:47:49 UTC
Problem:
Calc becomes very slow when displaying many cells with long text but only when
"Wrap text automatically" option is used.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a new spreadsheet
2. Add over 200 cells with some long text like: "Aaaa aaaa aaaa Aaaa aaaa aaaa
Aaaa aaaa aaaa Aaaa aaaa aaaa Aaaa aaaa aaaa Aaaa aaaa aaaa Aaaa aaaa aaaa Aaaa
aaaa aaaa Aaaa aaaa aaaa Aaaa"
3. Enable option "Wrap text automatically" (Format/Cells.../Alignment)
4. Reduce row height ("default")
5. (optional) Reduce column width, so the effect is even more visible
6. It takes over 2 seconds to refresh area containing formatted cells
(scrolling, minimizing/maximizing window, moving other window above - every
action that affects that part of the viewport)

After disabling auto-wrap, performance is normal again.

Tested on:
OO 2.4 Gentoo (binary version: =app-office/openoffice-bin-2.4)
OO 2.3.1 & 2.4 Debian Etch (packages from etch-backports) - different hardware

Confirmed on Fedora 7 with vanilla OOo 2.4.0
Comment 3 triple_p 2009-09-25 21:55:14 UTC
Still unresolved in OOo 3.1.1

Scrolling through attachment is very slow in Rev. 1489073 Win 7.
Save as Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP and open in Excel 2010 - scrolling is smooth.
