Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 88378
notify user when auto inserting parentheses
Last modified: 2013-12-18 12:44:39 UTC
If you insert a formula in Calc where the number of opening parentheses does not match the number of closing parentheses, Calc inserts parentheses but does not notify the user it has. This can result in formulas with errors. For example: If I intend to enter: SQRT(16)*4 (which will result in 16) and by mistake enter: SQRT(16*4 Calc will add the closing parentheses at the end, resulting in the formula: SQRT(16*4), with a result of 8. Of course the best option is not to make any mistakes while inserting a formula in the first place, but it would be better that Calc informs the user of it's actions or if the user would be able to configure Calc to do so.
adding CC. Nice example, thanks.
reassigning features and enhancements to user requirements@openoffice.org which will be the default owner for those tasks (was introduced some time ago)
Good enhancement.
