Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 81047
copy-paste base to calc gives errors in pasted fields
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:38:16 UTC
Hi, Try to open the attached document with Base. goto queries and open "test" query. notice the first postcodefield, being: "9051 PM" close the query. right-click on the query and choose: copy. open a new calc-sheet and paste. notice the first postcode-field, being: "9063:00:00" this occurs rarely in my documents say 3 or 4 times... Because user data is corrupted in an easy-to-encounter way i mark this as a p2 bug... Greetz...

hummm, suddenly i see the "pm" in the field. so i think calc sees it as a date or time... however, in the base-file the field is a text, so calc should see it as a text also... i think i mark it as a p3 again...
Hi, I can reproduce this also by pasting a text from writer to spreadsheet. So this is not a database error. The problem that it worked as designed. Spreadsheet try to choose the right format and because of the PM the time format is used. However I send this issue to the requirements team for evaluating a possible solution. Bye Marc
A similar problem appears for text strings consisting of more than 15 digits. They will apparently be interpreted as numbers no matter what and the final digits will irrevocably be replaced by zeros. It would be nice to have an option to copy without loss of information, e.g. by pasting everything as text, if it is not feasible to preserve the original data types in the database or to enable the user to choose the data type of each pasted column, like when one pastes a text table from the clipboard.
