Description wiesiooo 2007-08-12 12:35:27 UTC
This issue seems to be related to the Writer issue #80622, so you might want to
read this too.

If a drawing object is copied and any drawing object is selected while pressing
paste, no new object will be created. You have to deselect all drawing objects
before pasting to make it work.

This is very counter-intuitive and annoying if you want to insert an object more
than once.

Reproduction:
   1) Activate the drawing toolbar
   2) Draw some lines, rectangles, whatever. It works with pictures inserted
      from external files, too.
   3) Select an object drawn/inserted in step 2 and press copy (or CTRL-C).
4a) While any drawing object is selected, press paste (or CNTRL-V).
--> Nothing happens, nothing is inserted.
4b) Deselect all drawing objects by clicking somewhere else. Now press
       paste. Now it works.

Draw seems to have the correct behaviour: Regardless of the selection state, the
new object is inserted on paste.

Well, the problem is that the user might want to replace the existing object
with a new one [e.g. to preserve the position].

So, pasting over an existing object (which is selected) should replace it.

But I agree, that IF one first copies the *same object* and then pastes it, the
first instance of the object should not be deleted and *another copy* of the
object should be added.

discoleo, I think that you've missed something here, because the issue is very
similiar to #80622.

The difference between #80622 (Writer copy and paste) and this one is, that in
Writer the selected object is replaced, as you suggest.

But in Calc *nothing at all* happens if an object is still selected. Simply
nothing is inserted or removed if another object is selected.

Thus, (as I wrote in #80622) we have three (3!) different behaviours. (Calc,
Writer, Draw; Impress seems to act like Draw and that's the behaviour I would
vote for, because that's the way most users may expect it, because every program
I remember behaves like Draw does.)

I can reproduce that on PC platform, Windows Vista Home Premium OS with version
DEV300m37

Steps:

1.	Open new spreadsheet and Text documents
2.	Insert some drawing object (Ob1) in Spreadsheet document and left it
selected
3.	Insert a couple of drawing objects (Ob2 and Ob3) in a Text document
4.	Copy Ob2 at text doc, activate Spreadsheet doc not disturbing selection
and paste it – Ob2 doesn’t appear
5.	Drag Ob1 – nothing appears. You haven’t replaced Ob1 with Ob2.
6.	Activate Text doc, select Ob3 and paste Ob2 – Ob3 “disappears†and
selection moves to Ob2.
7.	Drag selected Ob2 – another one is under dragged. Ob3 was replaced with
Ob2

Paste doesn't work when a drawing object is selected in Rev. 1400866
