Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 79529
MS Graph embedded in Word.doc cannot be edited by Calc
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
Calc cannot edit an Excel Table embedded in a Word Document. The Table is opened "Read Only". If MS-Office is installed, it can be edited by Excel. Various Documents have embedded Excel sheets as Tables for calculating quotes. In a changing environment from MS-Office to OOo, the documents are all still MS-Office format. External Documents will remain in MS-Office format. OOo has to be able to edit MS-Office documents with embedded Excel Tables.
For this, there are conversion options in Tools.Options.LoadSave.Microsoft Office.
Closed.
Turning on all those options doesn't help. I still can't edit an embedded chart. This is a blocker for me; if I can't do this, I have to use Microsoft Word. The problem persists even if I save the document in question as an ODF file. I'll attach a simple example: a presentation containing a single pie chart.
Created attachment 46781 [details] Example presentation with embedded pie chart. Chart should be editable, but isn't.
The chart becomes editable if I install MS Office; when I do that, OpenOffice opens up Microsoft Graph when I double-click on the chart.
Might be related to bug 7635, bug 22945, and/or bug 27439.
MRU->FST: please have a look, there is an MS Graph Object in the document. Is this currently not supported for conversion? RFE?
For me editing a normal Excel sheet works so far. I have not tested other possibilities yet.
Hi, Graph is used very seldom and therefore we do not have an Import filter for such OLE Objects. So this is an Enhancement request and I re-assign it to requirements for evaluation and decision finding. Frank
Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure MS Graph is so rarely used; I heard that all charts within PowerPoint are created by using Microsoft Graph, and what big company doesn't love pie charts in their Powerpoint presentations?
This bug can also be seen in the document attached to issue 20794. Also, there's a related export problem if the user works around this by inserting a new chart object, see issue 30356.
