To simplify choosing from a list, i use validate to select for example office.
To make a second selection i use a the validate option with an indirect
reference to the first field. In excel this is like "=Indirect(f11)". A choice
can be made which depends on the first choice. When the xls is imported in OO
2.1 th "=" is missing and the function does not work any more.
A sample test Xls is added to show the problem

I confirm this behaviour on OOo 2.1 XP.
The second validation field is blocked because the =indirect(F11) function is
not recognised at all with or without the =.

Confirming with 2.1 and 2.2m5 - list-box in I11 does not work. The one in G11 
does work.
