Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 74201
Problem Selecting Entire Rows/Columns
Last modified: 2007-02-06 11:32:27 UTC
This issue follows from the discussions in the Calc forum under: "Help need with selecting and dragging cells and rows" The issue has been flagged as bug in that discussion, and is as follows: The row marks and column headers in Calc can be used to select entire rows/columns. However, the selection cannot be extended using Shift-Up/Down (rows) or Shift-Left/Right as a user would expect. To reproduce the issue, do the following: 1. Click a Row marker to select the entire row (e.g. Row "2"). 2. Press Shift-Down arrow The result is that cells A2:A3 are selected, but the expected result is that entire rows 2-3 should be selected. There is a secondary (most likely related issue): Selecting an entire row or column while editing a formula does not add the entire row or column reference to the formula. For example, if the formula is the sum of column A, then we want =SUM(A:A). To produce this, one would expect to be able to type =SUM( in a cell, and then click the header for column A, but this does nothing.
It seems reasonable for a user to expect that a selection made using the headers should have the same results as a selection made otherwise. I can select a row with the row header and apply a style to the entire row - so there is a selection of the row in some sense at least. If I then use Shift+Down, the selection becomes the cell in column A and the cell below it.
