Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 7180
Need ability to move columns/rows in spreadsheet
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:14:13 UTC
Unless I'm doing it the wrong way, if I have a column (or row) which I want to move sideways, I miss the ability to paste a column AND INSERT at the same time eg highlight column F cut highlight column B --- if I PASTE now it overwrites column B what I want to do is insert the cut values XL has a "Insert cut column" right clicked item at this point ..... same applies to rows. (The other way to do it would be to drag rows or columns to their new positions....) this is a usability request.
Hi Falko, 1 4 u Frank
Add "Insert copied/cut cells" to context menu. It allows to paste clipboard content* to the desired location w/o(!) overwriting the existing data (but to "shift" the existing data instead) * This cipboard content must be formerly cut/copied cells from the spreadsheet!
.
Hhmmm, what's about Paste Special Shift cells ... ? Frank
Hello Nikals, please give approval for this evaluated OO.o 2.0 flagged issue. If you confirm with the target OO.o 2.0, then please keep it on your owner (or the owner of the concerning developer) for implementation. In case you want this issue for 'OOo Later', then please reset the target milestone. If you decline the issue finally, please set the resolution to 'Wontfix' (but do not close). In case of 'OOo Later' or 'Wontfix' please reset it on Bettina's owner. Thank you.
according to the announcement on releases (http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=releases&msgNo=7503) this issue will be re-targeted to OOo Later.

Thomas, what makes this issue different from 14007? Also, when this fix is planned for integration into master? Thanks a lot for your work! WBR, K. Palagin.
Issue #14007 describes basically the same enhancement. As I already checked in the code with the issue number #7180, I will set #14007 to duplicate. Please note, that #14007 has currently 80(!) votes. It is planned to integrate this enhancement into OOo 2.4.

What would the reason to miss 2.3?
We already missed the feature deadline for OOo 2.3, which was July 5th, 2007. Feature deadline means, that the CWS must be integrated until that date. What's still missing for this issue is a feature specification and the corresponding CWS calccolrowmove must pass the QA.
:-( I think our users would rather have non-specced, non-QAed, but very usefull feature now, instead of specced/QAed 6 month later. Is there a way other distributions could get the code in patch-like way so that they could give the feature to their users and do real-life QA?
Removing my vote (as it's "fixed"), and adding myself to CC. Thanks for sorting this out tbe. Even if we still have to wait for 2.4 at least the end is in sight. It has been a long time coming and I'm relieved to see this old issue cleared up :-)
TBE->KPALAGIN: I know this is dissatisfying, but as soon as the CWS is integrated the feature is available in the next developer snapshot, which can be downloaded from openoffice.org. In addition the source code changes can be extracted from CVS and everybody is free to include those changes and build an own distribution. As far as I know you always have full installation sets for OOo, I'm not sure if patch sets are supported.
The specification is available at http://specs.openoffice.org/calc/ease-of-use/Insertion_of_Cells.odt
Set target
TBE->FST: Please verify on CWS calccolrowmove.

Should issue 21280 be set as a duplicate of this? It also has a relationship with issue 14007.
Hi, I wonder, if Issue 21280 will be fixed with this, too? Can anybody tell? http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=21280
How is this 'fixed'? I don't see 'Insert cut/copied cells' in any context menu anywhere?
