Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 68780
Case replacement from sort lists
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
The case of typed word (contained in some sort list, but with different case) is replaced by the one from the sort list (i.e. Sun, Mon, ...). When changed it is always replaced after leaving editted cell (mon -> Mon, sun -> Sun etc.).
Yep, happens to me as well (m180 2.0.4 RC1 on Vista). Also, this behavior has nothing to do with "Start each sentence with a capital letter" as it changes from all upper case to all lower case when sort item is all lower case.
Hi, I'm sorry but I could not reproduce the problem. Please give us a step by step description on how to repilcate it. Frank
Assuming that there is a sort list Sun, Mon, Tue, ... "sun" is changed to "Sun" ("mon" to "Mon", "tUE" to "Tue" etc.) after leaving the cell.
Hi, sorry for the missunderstanding, I should have explained in a better way. Yes, the capitalization effect is seen by me too, but IMHO this is correct behaviour and absolutly logical. A defined sortlist should work as it does now because you have defined it that way. If you use Mon in a sort list, your intention is to have the abbreviation for Monday. This is as far as I know to be written with uppercase first letter. But this is my opinion, let's hear how User Experience point of view is. Matthias, please comment on this Issue and re-assign according to your decission. Frank
Hi, I think that sort lists should apply only when dragged through more cells and only when the case matches (or this behavior should be customizable). There are more reasons for it - sort lists are defined with application scope and if a user want "MON" written this way he may have a good reason for it. Mon need not mean only Monday (Motor Octane Number, Mixed Oxides of Nitrogen etc.). By now the user has to delete the sort list which could be quity handy in other cases. Case correction is a spellchecker job and can be turn on if needed. Tomas

I am no longer officially active on OOo. Please take over.
This problem seems to be related: If you have 2 lists: A,B,C,... and a,b,c,... Start with 'a' and drag it: you get 'B','C', ... instead of 'b','c',... It seems the first (ie, created first) list gets priority: if the A,B,C,.. list is deleted, then 'a' is followed (correctly) by 'b', 'c',...
This behavior causes Issue 101046 too. IMO this behavior is not desirable. Choice of capitalization should be left with the user.
