Description tora3 2006-07-28 07:26:28 UTC
With Calc,
 1. Enter an equation =1/10 into a cell.
 2. Confirm a displayed text saying 0.1 .
 3. Apply a number format "Fraction" to the cell.
 4. Confirm if the text turns into 1/10.
    In reality, 1/9, instead.

Is that designed? Maybe, yes. but, ...

Software engineers know that 1/10 is a recurring decimal number in binary.

That, however, could be taken care of a little bit to make it better
from end user's point of view. Don't you think so?

I misunderstood.

A format code "# ??/??" instead of "# ?/?" returns a better result.

It would be better if we had a more general format code like "# */*" as a default.
Where "*" represents one or more, automatically adapted, number of "?".

Still reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.2.1 multilingual version English UI WIN XP:
[OOO300m14 (Build 9489)]"!

I see that as a bug. When I Enter 0,1 into a cell (what will be shown as 0,1,
modify format to "Fraction" and see "1/9", that is some more than unexpected.

And indeed, the "workaround" format code "# ??/??" should be used as default,
that would lead to a much better result.
