Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
Please consider adding "Compare side by side" feature, like Excel 2003 has (see screenshot attached). The point is synchroniuos vertical and horisontal scrolling of two spreadsheet.

Something similar can be achieved by using the context menu of the taskbar.

Hello! This would be an useful enhancement. Also same for Writer also would be nice...

@kohei: Do you have idea how can you solve this request in the easiest way?
@kami_: I don't know of an "easy" way to implement this. One thing to note is that Excel uses its MDI facility to implement the side-by-side feature, but OOo is no longer an MDI app. Someone once mentioned a "tabbed browsing" feature for OOo by re-using the existing framework in OOo. Extending that would be one way to implement this. Also, we could make use of the split window functionality for this. But the current split window only deals with one document instance whereas the side-by-side feature requires loading two document instances and controlling their view at the same time. So I can imagine a fair amount of refactoring may be necessary to make that happen. If we want to implement this for Writer as well as Calc, then looking into the "tabbed browsing" approach may be the right direction. But this is just my initial guess.
