Description rosspjohnson 2006-02-25 14:19:23 UTC
An issue reported by someone on the user's list.

Enter the following formula into Calc:

=SUM D8:D9)

Calc suggests an even less valid formula as a replacement:
=SUMD8:D9

It's the same for every function I tried.

True in rc3

One really simple safeguard against this in general would be to have Calc
re-check it's own suggested replacement formula *before* suggesting it. If the
replacement fails the check then Calc should issue an appropriate message (i.e.
no valid replacement can be suggested) and give up.
