Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 61501
the sheet tabs fonts are nearly too small to read
Last modified: 2008-05-17 23:25:41 UTC
i had updated from a 2.0.0 to 2.0.1 . the other fonts look OK, not great but OK 1600x1200 window size. the view magnification is at 120%. changing this made the text readable but at the expense of every thing else becoming too large. the current versionrc info [Version] buildid=680m1(Build:8990) ProductPatch= ProductSource=OOA680 ProductMajor=680 ProductMinor=1 ProductBuildid=8990 AllLanguages=en-US Linux XXXXXXX 2.4.21-37.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Sep 28 13:18:44 EDT 2005 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux centos 3.5 plus patches..

sorry, wrong issue
i have found that the same executable produces normal/expected font sizes on the sheet tabs when i start it from withing a vnc desktop that is running blackbox as the window manager. my normal desktop window manager is kde, i believe the version of kde is 3.1.3-6.10 the version of blackbox is 0.70.1 hope this clue helps..
It looks like the ugly font is a non-scalable X11 font... To confirm this, please download OOo 2.0.2. The issue should still be there. Now set the environment variable SAL_ENABLE_NATIVE_XFONTS to 0. E.g. do export SAL_ENABLE_NATIVE_XFONTS=0 before starting soffice. The problem should be gone by now. Right?
@ktomasek Any news?
we, as a group, recently moved to centos 4. Linux d2al220 2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Jul 7 18:22:55 CDT 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux i have have updated the openoffice to 2.0.4 to verify another bug fix. currently the issue does not occur. setting the env variable mentioned has no discernable effect. the tab fonts, although smaller than the menu fonts, are infinitely more readable than before. i don't believe that have the 2.0.1 still on the system..
