Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 58928
Delete Contents exist 2x; rename one
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
This may be a bug-- but I also see it as an enhancement, in Spreadsheet's Menubar Tools\Customize I go to Keyboard tab and want to modify a binding to a keyboard key. Top half of the Customize dialog menu has the 'Shortcut Keys', the bottom 'Functions: Category, Function, Keys' It would be conveninent to implement a double-click feature just for within this dialog box. An example would be that instead of single clicking 'Functions:Keys', have the user to double-click this so that 'Shortcut Keys' updates. There is also a problem, if one wants to customize a Keyboard shortcut and has selected his key in 'Shortcut Keys', this section updates too simply by just clicking 'Functions: Function'(if there is a binding for it already, but the user has no idea of while he's browsing among these first to column lists in 'Functions:'). An extension to this idea has me thinking that double-clicking on the 'Shortcut Key' item update the bottom Half as well(Functions: columns). I stumbled upon this, after realizing that 'delete' on a cell was not bringing up a 'Delete' dialog box(my msexcel habits *sigh:). I also notice that 'Delete Contents' in Functions:Function (that customize/keyboard dialog box) is listed twice, offering two different functions..perhaps new names between the two can help such as 'Delete Contents DialogBox' and 'Delete Cell Data' If you do have the chance, I do have a little question if you don't mind.. It would also be nice if there was a feature for the 'enter' key, so that instead of hitting 'enter' on a modifying cell, focus of the keyboard moves on to the cellbox rather than navigating going one cell down. Is there a function already providing this? Thanks for looking into this, I submitted to defect and enhancement since this may sound there may be a bug here. Keep the good work. :) jagginess
first your question: deselect Tools -> Options... -> OpenOffice.org Calc -> General -> Press Enter to move selection second your problem (key focus update): this is a known design; if you want it to change, please file an enhancement request 3rd your suggestion (double-click): I believe you already filed this issue as enhancement request also: so this suggestion will be worked on there 4th: 2x Delete Contents: I set this as the issues theme: rename one Delete Contents function, so Confirmed on Windows XP Pro SP2 with OOo 2.0.1 RC2 (normally such multi-problem issues get invalid, but I make an exception) (I agree that the customize keyboard functionality can use some improvements, so you are encouraged to file enhancement requests) 2x Delete Contents to be found under Tools -> Customize... -> keyboard -> Functions Category Edit
The oocalc program settings should be available as much as oobase. Which must be the reason why I must of missed it under oowriter's settings (settings Tools/Options under it do not exhibit oocalc).. Perhaps this can be pretty confusing. Also the idea that 'enter' is available under as a shortcut key for oocalc lead to me thinking that the auto-move 'down' after new cell contents, can be overriden. (thinking 'enter' was a built-in default but whose auto-move down is not publicly displayed). It would be logical to state that since 'enter' is configurable that the auto-move down setting not be under Tools/options, but rather under keyboard short-cut funtions. I couldn't figure out why oocalc settings are not found under oowriter's Tools/options, but oobase, curiously i'm wondering why shouldn't there be a central settings hub, or is there something that is currently being made to surpass this difficulty..I would be mistaken to say that this is intuititive for the new comer, the settings do seem somewhat dispersed in this area for keyboard-shortcuts settings. Thanks for the feedback... (>>4th: 2x Delete Contents: I set this as the issues theme: rename one Delete Contents function, so Confirmed on Windows XP Pro SP2 with OOo 2.0.1 RC2 mind me asking, I haven't seen this listed on issue tracker-- what type of query did you use? I'm having trouble getting significant results with issue tracker-- (i even noticed a separate bug i'm filling against)).. jagg
you mentioned quite a few quirks of OOo. If you like them to be different, file enhancement requests :-) what do you mean with "query"? I changed the summary (which "normal" users probably can't do). The query page needs getting used to, but once one has, it's quite OK :-)
as enhancement this is for the requirements team. Frank
