Description ingenstans 2005-11-23 16:49:33 UTC
This is a defect, not an RFE; I can't remember if it worked properly before.

Creaste a fairly long document, and then six or eight bookmarks in it. Within
the Navigator, they are arranged in Ascii order (A-Z then a-z). This is
extremely frustrating. What I want, often, is to know where they are within the
document, so they should be ordered from first to last there.

It's an RFE: you *wish* to order the bookmarks following their positon in the
document. Other users wish to have them sorted alphabetically to find them
faster. So we may see it is possible to make those both wishes come true...

Oh, well, technically speaking, I suppose it is an RFE :-)

if you want a list of bookmarks sorted by appearance in the document, use the
context-menu on the statusbar-field that shows the page-number.

I really don't understand this suggestion. If I click on a bookmark and jump to
it, obviously I will learn what page it is on. But that's no help in
establishing the order of the bookmarks. I suppose I could incorporate the page
number at the beginning of the bookmark name, and then bookmarks within the
first nine pages would mostly sort properly, but that's an ugly kludge.

Use the context-menu, don't look at the page-number after jumping to a bookmark.

right-click on the status-bar.

Thanks, Christian. That is very slick, and I hadn't found it in five years of
using the program.

Note that they aren't even really sorted alphabetically the same:

In Insert->Bookmark:
a
A
b
B
c

In Navigator:
A
B
a
b
c

In my opinion if they aren't going to be sorted by position then the two
locations where they are shown should match for the format of 'alphabetically'
that they are sorted.

When adding a bookmark, the list of existing ones is alphabetical --good.
When selecting a bookmark as hyperlink target, the list is not alphabetical
--inconvenient. Apparently, it is ordered from first to last (which would please
andrewb). Is there an option to switch to alphabetical ?
