Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 52035
Lone URL pasted directly into a cell is not recognized as a URL
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
When you type a URL into a cell, it is recognized as such, and turned into a URL object which is clickable. However, when you copy and paste a URL from somewhere else, and press enter to submit the info to the cell, it is not recognized and converted into a link. If, however after pasting into a cell, I edit the cell, and add a space at the end of the URL, it is then recognized and converted to a link. The expected behavior is that pasting a URL into a cell should instantly be recognized as such and converted into a link. (this also goes for OO Writer - when URLs are pasted, they should be recognized as such)
Hi, it's not a defect but an enhancement request. As such I reassign it to the requirements team for further evaluation. IMHO this should be set to wontfix, as a lot of people expect this as it is now. Frank
Also, I didn't mention it, but this problem only occurs when pasting a URL with no trailing whitespace. (it still happens if preceeded by whitespace)
Regarding whether or not it is a defect, it doesn't so much matter to me what you call it. What is important is that it get looked at. I consider it a defect because it exibits inconsistent behavior -- any time a URL is inputted it should consistently be parsed as a URL (or consistently not parsed if this feature is turned off). Or maybe when it is typed is the only time it should be parsed, and when pasted, never parsed? In any case, the behavior should be *consistent*. As it is, one kind of pasted text is parsed, another kind is not parsed.
