Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 46166
Copy / Paste of complete merged cell into merged cell fails
Last modified: 2005-04-14 13:56:28 UTC
Open a new empty spreadsheet. Merge the first to cells (A1 and B1). Then merge A2 and B2. Row 1 and 2 are now 100% identical. Type something in A1 (which is merged with B1) and accept the change. Tap ctrl+C on the cell and try to paste it into A2 (which is identical to A1 - merged with B2 the same way A1 is merged with B1). THE PASTE FAILS... this is not user-friendly and very illogical. Two identical cells should of course be compatibel with copy paste.
I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m79) English version WIN XP: [680m79(Build8876)] and can confirm problem. I checked with 1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52(Build8824)] and can also confirm problem, that is not only a 2.0 Problem! The problem is visible if you try to paste the complete cell A1:B1 into A2B2: Message "Cell merge not possible if cells are already merged". May be that that "works as designed" (because that error message has been created), but it's really ruser-unfrendly. Someone should decide: defect or If I go to content of A1:B1 by doubleclick, press <cntrl>+<C>, I can paste that content into A2:B2 without problem as expected). Funny thing: in "Paste Special" I can unselect everything except "String" (or "Number"), but paste will not work. I would habe expected that it works with unselected "Formats".
This issue is a duplicate of very old issue 2131 (or, may be more direct: issue 8301) I want to wait a little moment before "DUP" so that someone can decide again: DEFECT or ENHANCEMENT?
