Follow-up from issue 32105...

Start a new spreadsheet. Select a cell and click on the italics toolbar icon to
make the cell contents italicized. Now use the border button to place borders
around the cell. Now go to a text document (I usually use a web browser for
convenience) and select some text and paste into the cell. The italics stay and
the border disappears.

I am told that this paste should be as formatted text, which is why the border
goes away. Why then does the italics stay? This is inconsistent and must be a
bug one way or the other.

As I said in my previous note, if what I'm pasting is plain text, then I would
like for the paste to be as unformatted text and leave all formatting there.

Thanks.

I tried to replicate this issue and got different results.

Setup steps:
1) Launch Open Office
2) Select cell B2 (to get away from the spreadsheet border)
3) Right-click on cell
4) Select 'Format Cells...'
5) Select the 'Font' tab
6) Select 'Italic' from the 'Typeface' list
7) Select the 'Borders' tab
8) Click the 'Set all four borders' picture under 'Line Arrangement'
9) Click 'OK'

I tried the following tests independently:

'A' Test steps:
1) Do Setup steps
2) Copy text from a '.txt' document
3) Single-click cell B2
4) Right-click on cell
5) Select 'Paste'

'B' Test steps:
1) Do Setup steps
2) Copy text from a '.txt' document
3) Double-click cell B2
4) Right-click on cell
5) Select 'Paste'

'C' Test steps:
1) Do Setup steps
2) Copy some text from this bug report
3) Single-click cell B2
4) Right-click on cell
5) Select 'Paste'

'D' Test steps:
1) Do Setup steps
2) Copy some text from this bug report
3) Double-click cell B2
4) Right-click on cell
5) Select 'Paste'

Results:
A) Text in italic, border is around cell
B) Text in italic, border is around cell
C) Text not in italic, no border around cell
D) Text not in italic, border is around cell

In tests C and D, the font resized to 12 point and adjusted the cell size to
accommodate it.

System:
Dell 8600 Inspiron Laptop
Intel Pentium Mobile 1.4
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5660 (128MB)
Windows XP Pro SP2
OOo1.1.2

In all cases I got a different result. It seems as though text brought over
from a web browser retains its formatting. But the text documents are
allowing themselves to be formatted. Maybe it’s a difference in versions?

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Dajie
