Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 26919
Calc fails to colour cell references while editing formulas
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:13:09 UTC
In the attached document, the blue cell simpily multplies the two green cells: - Please double click the blue cell (C1) in order to be able to edit its formula - Now you can see that the both reference-names "A1" and "B1" to the green cells are colored - If you click the cursor with the mouse to another place within the formula, the cell-references are still colored (that's OK and equal to Excel) - But if you move the cursor by the cursor keys, the colors are removed to black: That's a minor problem. Excel does not change to black in this case. Excel does change the cell-names to black when really editing the formula. OOo-Calc should do the same. Please fix this.

Hi Niklas, one for you. Frank
I forgot to mention that also the colored borders of the reference-cells are removed. But this is logical when removing the colores from the cell-names. Both should be kept when just moving the cursor: the colored cell-names and the colored borders.

The problem here is that Calc fails to colour cell references "on the fly" while editing formulas. I have filled issue 81837 therefore. So this issue is obsolete. Perhaps it should be set to duplicate of issue 81837, but I don't have the authority to do that.

I think this is a P3 issue because it turned out be more than a cursor problem.
Here the correct description of issue 81837, which has been closed by fst, although I wanted him to close THIS issue: - please open the attached spreadsheet (link below) (cell A4 should be selected): http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/48414/issue_81837.ods - press F2 on cell A4 to edit it's formula: Note the colored cell references and the colored cell borders. - Now we want add the content of the cell A3 to the formula, so enter "+A3": Note that the colors have vanished, after you have started typing. Oder spreadsheet software like Excel and KSpread set the colors "on the fly" while editing formulas. Calc should the same. (Even if only the arrow keys are used to move the cursor through formulas, the colors are vanishing, although the formula has not been edited.)
Dear developers. What about this issue? Can we expect that it will be solved? Set target at least, please.
@canis: Don't expect this issue to be fixed within the next 10 years. According to experience Sun gives no priority to such usability glitches. The only hope is that an external developer will work on it someday.
norbert2, such attitude is not exactly inspiring for developers. You really have to have patience. Regards, KP.
