Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 13671
Pasting text containing numbers seperated by dots is impossible
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:38:25 UTC
I have a table in an OOo writer document, which I want to paste in an OOo spreadsheet document. The first columnn of the table contains text in the form of "1.1.1.", "1.1.2", and so on. When the table is pasted in the spreadsheet, OOo interprets this text as a date, so it becomes "01/01/01", "01/01/02" and so on. I tried first changing the formatting of the cells to "Text", but when pasting this is ignored and the formatting is automatically set to date. I could not find a way to disable this automatic guessing, neither could I paste it correctly with one of the formats of "Paste Special". So there does not seem to be any way to correctly paste this text in the spreadsheet.
Hi Frederik, sorry to tell you that this is working now as expected. Nevertheless we are aware of such problems and are thinking about a better solution. Depending on this I reflaged this Issue as Enhancement. A work around would be to format the cells you want the clipboard content in as Text and paste it as unformatted text. Unfortunately you can't get the table structure from the original in that way, so you have to put the blocks of cells you want to reside side by side into the clipboard and Paste Special them using the transpose checkbox in the dialog. It's a bit tricky and unsatisfactory but for now the only way to solve your problem if you will not enter the Values by hand. Aaahhh, another way. Just insert an ' (apostrophe) in front of all values in the text file. Copy them into the clipboard and paste them into calc. Now you should have them as text in your spreadsheet.
