13MB ODS file available with the following link on my google drive:

Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit with 8GB of RAM and >100GB available disk space on the single drive partition.

AOO401m5(Build:9714)  -  Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29 (Fr, 20 Sep 2013)

Load file. (takes a minute or two).  Memory will spike just above 1GB.  

File contains two sheets, first sheet is raw data, second sheet contains references to first sheet, and various calculations and conditional formatting.

File was created and edited in a single session.   Since it was saved, any attempts to reload and do any substantial editing fail as per below.


BUGS

#1.
Load file
Go to second sheet.
Select all, hit delete key, choose delete all, hit enter - crash

#2.
Load file
Go to second sheet
Delete thousands of rows, in batches of 1000 at a time until there are only 1000 rows remaining in this sheet
(you can't delete more than that or you hit the crash in #1 above)
Click save - variously seen
a) hang and crash
b) error message that cannot save

Downloaded and upgraded to OpenOffice 4.1.0 and it fails too, same issues as 4.0.1.

More or less reproducible with "AOO 4.0.1 – German UI / German locale [AOO401m3(Build:9712) - Rev. 1520285 2013-09-05 13:52:01]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", Common 4.0 User Profile:

0. Start WIN Task Manager
1. From AOO Start Center open reporter's sample document
2. Click A1
3. Menu 'Window -> Uncheck "Freeze"'
4. Click Row Heading Row 1
5. Scroll down, shift+click Row heading Row 1000
   > Rows 1 ... 1000 bekome selecte
6. Menu 'Edit -> Delete Cells'
   > Mouse pointer switches to "busy" view, used RAM is slowly increasing
   Bug: Crash after app. 1/2 minute

Additional info:

(a) also Reproducible with server installation of "AOO 4.1.0-dev – English UI
    / German locale - [AOO410m14(Build:9760)  -  Rev. 1583418 2014-05-03]" 
    on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile.
(b) no crash if I proceed as per report #1
(c) also crashes with OOo 3.1.1 with above mentioned steps

(d) Step 6 crash seems not to be RAM overflow related. I closes all RAM
    consuming applications and did test again, Crash although only 1/2 of
    ram was used.
