concept book to see how I used to do multilingual sheets in MS-EXCEL

Bug or missing feature?

I do not know if this is a bug or a missing feature; but when reading spreadsheets written with MS-EXCEL if there are charts whose titles and axis names depend on the contents of some cells AOO reads the present content of the cells, but it does not actualize the title and the axis names when the cells content changes.

I have found that feature extremely valuable when trying to write multilingual spreadsheets (spreadsheets whose all contents appear on the language that you choose among the ones available for that spreadsheet) but I have not found the way to actualize the titles and axis names in AOO 4.0.1 or AOO 4.1.0

I attach a concept file to show how I used to work on MS-EXCEL.

If this feature is not available in AOO 4.1.0, is it going to be available in a near future?

EXCEL file with chart titles linked to cells

I think this is an original EXCEL file (Not read with AOO and rewritten afterwards) but I am not sure because nowadays I do not have EXCEL on my PC.

The language should be changed in the C10 cell of the RES1 spreadsheet.

A related report is "LibO#56303 - Allow Formula in Chart Title"

Some explications to the requirements:
<http://www.mrexcel.com/archive/Chart/8071.html>
<http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/excel-help/add-a-chart-title-HA102809718.aspx>
<http://www.accountingweb.com/article/automating-excel-chart-titles/219390>

I often wished OOo should have this feature, we never had it.

Confirmed with
AOO410m1(Build:9750)  -  Rev. 1569541
Rev.1569541
Win 7
Excel 2010

Yes, the new sample shows the difference:

(a) modifying Number in C10
(a1) In AOO changes texts in column headings and so in Legend
     Title stays as it was, is static text
(a2) In Excel also contents of Title changes language, because Title will be
     created form contents of A13
(b) I don't know whether this one has ODF impact.

http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/os/OpenDocument-v1.2-os-part1.html#element-chart_title
> The <chart:title> element represents a title in a chart document.

A cell as source is valid, but not implemented. :(

So this is more or less request:
Due to
Open Document Format for Office Applications Version 1.2
Part 1: OpenDocument Schema
11.2 Title, Subtitle and Footer:

For <chart:title> element implement "table:cell-range" attribute

The charts in the Excel file I sent do not have axes; but, as I said in my first comment, with the chart axis names in other kinds of charts there is the same problem.

I do not know if you should take that into account to determine what to do.

Do we know if this issue is going to be solved for the 4.2.0 version of OenOffice?

It depends on it the use of OpenOffice or MS-Office in my implementation of multilingual spreadsheets.
