It is impossible to select or edit a matrix under OO.
I use a French localized version of AOO under Mavericks 10.9.1 (french language system).

On Windows I have to use the / from number pad, not from the usual keyboard. Are there similar restrictions on your OS?

Are you sure, that it is the correct shortcut key for your OS? Please have a look at Tools > Customize > Keyboard and search for the command "Select Array Formula".

Has this shortcut key worked for you with previous versions of OpenOffice?

Please assign another shortcut key to the command, so that it is clear, whether the key binding is broken or the command itself. Find the command "Select Array Formula" in category "Edit".
