Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 119060
Copying cells to clipboard always adds a newline at the end
Last modified: 2019-12-04 21:02:22 UTC
The process of copying a cell (or cells) within a Calc spreadsheet yields a superfluous newline at the end of the copied content. This behavior is undesirable, especially when pasting into other applications. The following forum thread describes the issue in more detail: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33927 The rationale as to why this occurs when MULTIPLE cells are copied makes sense (the cursor is forced down to the next row after pasting -- usually convenient), but there seems to be no reason for this behavior when copying ONE cell only.
Verified on Aoo_Trunk_20120912.1800, unfortunately, I did not repro this bug, so could you please follow the steps on latest build on your side to see if it still occurs? thank you.
install default OOo. tryed version 3.4.1, 3.3.0 and latest snapshot r1372282. open new calc document, select cell A1, enter some text, select this cell, press Ctrl-C, going to another program, notepad for example, press ctrl-V and get this text and newline(CR) sorry for bad english
There is a new line character in notepad(CR) after pasting the cell content from OO Calc 3.4.1.
Created attachment 82474 [details] Patch to reintroduce the statement to avoid last newline The line that avoid last new line to be added is commented in the code. I do not know why the line is commented... Maybe related to the other bug?
Just wanted to mention that in LibreOffice Calc 6.2.0.3 on OS X in March 2019 still exhibits this behavior: if you select a *single* cell, copy it, and paste it anywhere, it will have a superfluous newline at the end, despite there being no such character in the original data. This causes particular issues with inter-operability with Google Sheets, which inserts a literal newline character into a cell that is pasted in such a way, rather than interpreting the newline as meaning "move to next cell."
Yes. This is STILL an issue in both OpenOffice as well as LibreOffice. I frequently reformat text from spreadsheets in a text editor and this is driving me NUTS. I'm not clear if this is a bug or an intended feature but I can not find any settings that negate this annoying problem. I personally would label this as a bug. Why anyone would want an extra line inserted after a paste is beyond me. Please FIX this?

Has anyone looked at this yet? This is still an issue.
Set latest confirmation to 4.1.6 per Comment 7 and Issue type as Patch per Comment 4.
LibreOffice 6.2.7.1 MacOSX 10.14.6 STILL an issue. Still no options to disable the insertion of this rogue carriage return. STILL extremely inconvenient and annoying. WHY is this such a challenge to fix this bug?

We're at apache.org. Soo... I am?

I am? You are at Apache OpenOffice. Fine if you want to test it with AOO! But this is not the right place for reporting for LibreOffice.
