Description michal.oniszczuk 2011-03-13 08:08:00 UTC
Edit|Fill menu items are always inactive, no matter what cell is selected -- filled or empty.

Probably as a result of the above bug, ctrl-d keyboard shortcut for Edit|Fill|Down does not work.

I am using the Polish OpenOffice on Ubuntu 10.10.

Do you have selected the range, which you want to fill, before you try to use the command?

After selecting the range it works (btw: I didn't know it works this way).

Now I would consider this a sort of "user experience" bug / defect. In previous versions of OO Calc the behaviour was different and the new one is not intuitive (at least for me) -- it sufficed to select one cell to activate the ctrl-d shortcut (it displayed list of all possible values in a column -- after selecting one from this list it was copied into the selected cell), now one needs to select a range of cells to activate the ctrl-d shortcut.

Maybe this bug should be an ENHANCEMENT now: the bug is the inconsistency in behaviour between versions of OO Calc -- so as a solution (enhancement) I propose to enable ctrl-d shortcut when even only one cell is selected and therefore maintain some consistency in behaviour between versions of OO Calc. The behavior of such ctrl-d would be to copy the selected cell value to the cell immediately below, or alternatively to copy value from the cell immediately above into the selected cell.

My comment "Do you have selected the range, which you want to fill, before you try to use the command?" was only for your problem with Edit|Fill. And there the behavior did not change. In all versions you have to first select the area.

The shortcut Ctrl+d is a different problem. It is for to get a "selection list". And that should work, if your entries are _text_. There you do not need to select the area, it works for each single cell in that column without any selection.

If you have problems in both topics, then please write separate issues. If your problem is only with Ctrl+d, then please give a step-by-step description of what you did in old versions and no longer works now. I cannot reproduce it.

I see 3.2.1 in the version field, please use the actual version 3.3

getting rid of value "enhancement" for field "severity".
For enhancement the field "issue type" shall be used.

Edit - Fill is meaningless if it doesn't save the user the mouse dragging action to highlight the cells to be filled.
Behavior should be:
1) select first cell in range
2) Edit - Fill - Down
3) select last cell in range - no endless mouse dragging!
