Sample Excel file to demonstrate the problem

Excel has this neat feature that if the format of a cell is YYYY-MM-DD, it can
also store a time for the cell (HH:MM:SS). The time isn't displayed in the
cell, but it's display in the edit box at the top when the cursor is over the
cell. This feature is useful when the user is interested in the date, and only
occasionally in the time, as it allows a date column to be sized to contain
only the date (see the attached sample Excel file).

When opening such an Excel file in OO, Calc doesn't display the time
at all, not even when pressing F2 to edit the cell. By comparison, Gnumeric
displays the time in that case (see the attached screenshots).

PS: I couldn't search if this issue has been already reported because the Search button at http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/pre_submission.html is broken. Also, the "join" and "login" links on that page are broken. All in all, submitting this bug was a hassle.

getting rid of value "enhancement" for field "severity".
For enhancement the field "issue type" shall be used.

In my opinion the problem in Calc is:
when a cell contain a number and you define one cell format (number, scientific, currency) in edit field appears always the original value (example number 123,457 with format 1234,12 in cell we see 123,46 and in edit field 123,457) but this does not happen when field contains a date time and the format in only date or if format is only time (in this case we see in edit field only date or date time expressed in time)
I confirm this bug

LibreOffice 3.5 displays the time in the status bar.
AOO hides the decimal fraction (time of day) when the cell is formatted as date which can be quite misleading because nothing indicates the true cell value.
