Description wolfgangunger 2010-03-31 07:52:33 UTC
1) Enter some text (> 10 words) into a cell
2) Right-click on cell -> mark as 'multi-line' (via 'Automatischer
Zeilenumbruch, textwrap)
3) Now modifiy the row-height (drag with mouse) so that only the first line is
visible -> on the right border of the cell a red tringle appears and signals
that more content of the cell is available
4) Select column, choose optimal column widht

Result: not all content of the cell is shown, sometimes the width of the column
changes a little bit but we can't find out the according rule.

Expected behavior: the width of the column changes so that all content of the
cell is visible

Reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.2.1 multilingual version English UI WIN XP:
[OOO300m14 (Build 9489)]", but I doubt that that's a bug. Help says "Defines
additional spacing between the longest entry in a column ...", and that is just
what happens. Column width will be adjusted so that the longest word in the text
will be visible without truncation.

Please feel free to reopen this issue if you can contribute concrete information
that OOo does not work "as designed".

No this is not just what happens. The column width is not adjusted to the
longest word in the text. Additionally the optimal column width with multiline
differs to the optimal width without multiline. That is not just what I expect.

1. Type the example text "Thisisaveryveryveryveryverylongword example text
example text example text" to a cell in OOCalc
2. Adjust the column to its optimal width (remember the effect)
3. Mark the cell as 'multiline'
4. Adjust the optimal column width again

Result:
- Not adjusted to the longest word
- The effect differs to the previous in step 2

Expected behavior:
Adjusting the optimal column width with 'multiline' take the same effect as it
does without it.

See last comment of christianb@openoffice.org - behavior in mode 'multiline'
not as expected

Reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.2.1 multilingual version English UI WIN XP:
[OOO300m14 (Build 9489)]" and instruction due comments from christianb Wed Mar
31 14:46:03 +0000 2010! With "Wrap Text Automatically" "otimum Width" will also
have default width as rexult.
