Hi.
Here is a weird format situation, please follow these steps:

1) open an empty new spreadsheet.
2) in cell A1 place the formula =1/3. It should render 0,33. OK.
3) now enter in A1 1/3 (no equal sign). It should render 01/03/10. OpenOffice
assumes input as date.
4) now enter again =1/3 in cell A1. The format of cell A1 was maintained as Date
and the rendering shows 31/12/99.

This is source of great confusion.

Confirm with WIN XP 3.1.1, but I beleive it's a feature, not a bug.

And indeed, that can cause strange effects:
1. Input "1 €" to 'A2' (pls. use your local currency)
"1,00 €" will be the result
2. Type "1/3" to 'A2'
"40.238,00 €" will be the result

May be it would be useful to be able to switch off this function

If this is a "feature", it was (perhaps) cloned from Excel (I checked w/ Excel
2003, same behaviour...).

Confirmed on Rev. 1507307 Win 7.
The origin to this error IMHO is enabling input of numbers with equal sign. Equal sign should be used only with functions. Numbers should be entered as is.
