Description jon_roland 2009-12-24 15:45:49 UTC
I had previously composed a spreadsheet of U.S. Supreme Court cases at URL cited
in which I used images from local files to represent links to the case decisions
elsewhere, a red diamond for remote, and a red square for local, files. I had
originally wanted to be able to create the hyperlinks on the images in each cell
and save as .xls so everyone could view and click on them, but found that the
links were only preserved if I saved as .ods. Not ideal, but at least I could
save and use them in .ods. Now, with OO 3.1.1 this capability seems to have been
lost. The images are no longer tethered to cells, but float around, and they
have lost their hyperlinks. I consider this a regression, and I would like to
get back to what I could previously do, and preferably be able to save to .xls
with the hyperlinks working.

Which exact version do you use to directly assign a hyperlink to a picture in
Calc? I do not remember any version, that has been able to do so, but the issue
94608 is still not solved.

In which version do the hyperlinks on the linked file ussc_milestones.ods work?
I get no hyperlink, neither in OOo243 nor in OOo3.1.

Is the file original made in OOo or is it converted from another format?

You can use Edit > ImageMap to assign a hyperlink to a picture in Calc.

In response to Regina, I am not sure of the version in which I created the
links, because I no longer have that version installed to open the old files and
test them. However, from one backup the date on the file for which I am fairly
sure they worked is 2007-12-23, and since I do automatic updates to Fedora
Linux, it would have been the version as of about that date.

I do recall how the links were created. I would select the image, then hit
Insert | Hyperlink and enter the URL in the field. OOo is no longer letting me
select just the image in the cell. It tries to make me select the entire cell,
which is not what I want. It also does not let me do things like align the image
in the cell the way I can text.

I just want to be able to insert centered images in cells that are linked to
files for the item on that line, different images for different formats. I could
do that in that previous version.

Hyperlink on image OK in ODS but not in XLS.
