On entering the edit mode in a cell by pressing a char, the left/righ/top/bottom
arrows move the focus away from the cell. On entering with a double-click/F2,
the right/left arrows move along the entered text and top/bottom arrows have no
effect. The behavior should rather be the same in both cases and I feel it
should be the later.

I can confirm that, but it might be a feature?

Confirming with 2.3.1 and m73 (and probably everything inbetween) on WinXP - 
as described.
If that is intended behavior (hopefully not) then let somebody from 
development clearly spell this out.
