Description Rainer Bielefeld 2009-09-05 09:51:49 UTC
If you want to select input data defined by name/area using Data/Validity, you
can not be sure that the value you clicked will be inserted.

Steps tp reproduce:
0. Download and open "Haushaltbuch.ods" from a.m. URL
1. go to sheet "Journal"
2. click 'D228'
   pulldown button appears as epected
3. Click pulldown button
Listing with old value "Essen" highlighted appears
4. Mouse click on "Hobby" and leave left mouse button pressed
  expected: "Hobby should be highlighted
actual: highlighted selection moves from "Hobby" to "Gesundheit" after a
          short moment
5. repeats step 4, but only do a short click on "Hobby". Now "Hobby" will be
   selected as expected.

I see this with "Ooo 3.1.1 WIN XP DE-multilingual version German UI activated
[OOO310m19 (Build 9420)]" and also with "Ooo Dev 3.2.0 multilingual version
English UI WIN XP: [DEV300m53 (Build 9412)]".

This problem is not 100% reproducible. I see it in all documents where I use
this input selection, but the problem does not appear always when I start
working with the document. But when I have seen the problem 1 time with a
particulate document, the problem will be reproducible 100% for this document
until I will have closed it.

Still the same with "Ooo Dev 3.2.0 multilingual version English UI WIN XP:
[DEV300m57 (Build 9422)]"
Comment 2 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-09-19 12:59:42 UTC
Today I saw this behaviour additionally in selection pulldown for Standard Filter

I have observed this annoying behavior when using data validity drop down
selection list.
I have observed that it is minimized by clicking the top drop down list value
then dragging down to the wanted list value then releasing the mouse button. It
seems to me that it is much less likely to slip up to the list value immediately
above the one chosen when selecting this way. Problem is I would need to
communicate my technique to other users and that is not always possible.

@ken_johnson:
With what OS / Platform did you observe that?
Comment 6 Rainer Bielefeld 2009-12-07 06:10:46 UTC
This problem doesn't always appear, I tried with sample document from Issue
107474, problem was not visible, even after I extended criteria range to 40 cells.
Comment 7 Rainer Bielefeld 2010-05-03 17:15:47 UTC
But I can see it on an other WIN XP OOo 3.1.1 PC and also with "Ooo-Dev 3.2.1
multilingual version English UI WIN XP: [OOO320m16 (Build 9497)]"!
To get this accepted, I attached a sample document "mytest.ods"

Steps to reproduce the problem
1. open "mytest.ods"
2. click sheet "0908_Journal" 'D2'
   selection pulldown appears
3. Click Pulldown Arrow Button
   Selection list appears
4. Click "Darlehen" and leave left mouse button pushed
   expected: "Darlehen" remains highlighted
actual: "Darlehen" will be highlighted, after half a second selection
           will jump to "Auto"

I have tried rainerbielefeld's mytest.ods on Windows 7 OOo 3.2 and the problem
stated is definitely 100% reproducible.
I also notice the problem temporarily disappears when the vertical scroll bar
has its down arrow clicked to move its slider down. Even just one click on the
down arrow, that moves the slider down but does not affect the positions of the
selection list, results in the selected item remaining selected rather than
selection of the item above.

NEW due to comments from ken_johnson.

Yes, it seems the problem only is visible as long as the scroll slider is at the
top.
