Summary: | In Calc defined print ranges/areas do not get copied (carried over) if one creates a copy of a sheet using the sheet copy function, not the clipboard. In Excel copying sheets includes copying set print areas. Apparently the same happens with defined heade | ||||||

Hi Falko, I think there are pro's and contra's for such an feature. Please have look. GFrank Falko - I have verified that this is still an issue in 1.0.1. -Josh *** Issue 8984 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. *** I disagree. Its quite dangerous to plain copy the print range! What if it overrides already existing print ranges? What if the user does not recognize this feature and prints aout 1000s of pages instead of an expected few? BTW, our competitors do not allow define print range once a sheet multiselection is active. closed Falko, Obviously, it's your design decision whether or not to copy ranges between sheets. However, you are quite mistaken when you say that our "competitors" do not do this. For one thing, I think you're not looking at my "steps to reproduce" and are getting confused with copying cells between existing worksheets and copying whole worksheets to new. In MS Excel, if I create a worksheet with a print range which is a subset of the sheet, and then copy that sheet to a new worksheet in the same workbook, the print range comes with it. In 1.0.3 it does not; I have not tested 1.1. I would argue strongly that this feature, in fact, is intuitive and what the user expects, and contrary to your assertion the lack of copying print ranges is far more likely to result in my printing 100's of pages than the failure to copy. Reject this issue if you like, but please do it for the right reasons. -Josh Berkus When copying cells with added print range vias clipboard retain the attached print area and copy it with the content. started Falko, I'm glad that you're looking at this again. However, I feel we're still not communicating, quite. It's possible that you understand me, and I don't understand you, but I think we should be absolutely clear: 1) When copying groups of cells from one existing worksheet to another existing worksheet, print ranges should not copy. 2) When copying an entire worksheet to a new sheet in the workbook or to another workbook, all print ranges should copy. Thus I don't think this should involve the clipboard at all, just the Edit --> Sheet --> Move/Copy menu command. Sorry to make this so tiresome, but I'd rather not waste your time implementing the wrong feature! -Josh *** Issue 22079 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. *** I would like to say that content of header or footer is not copied too.. (Format -> Page -> Header/Footer -> Edit) Is tiring to write all content again... Thanx Hwoarang enhanced summary, set keywords and reassigned issue according to RFE process Adding myself to CC. I too think that the print range of a worksheet should get copied with the sheet. This is a very important feature for our Company. We are an oil & gas exploration company and use spreadsheets to track daily costs and activities at a well site. We would create a blank sheet formated in a specific way and then create a new sheet/tab for each day in a project. This can make up to 100 versions of it within the spreadsheet. It is most annoying to have to reset the print area on each new copy. This should just be an option we can select. That way those that want to do it can and those that don't want it are happy too. Also, this still hasn't been fixed on the 1.9+ beta version. Created attachment 48541 [details]
duplicate any speadsheet deosn't copy print aeras
I have same problem with the 2.2.1 (Windows XP SP2), but sometimes it's work, sometimes it doesn't and I don't know why Same thing on Calc in OO.org 2.3. I'd like to have this issue resolved too. Set target and cc myself. Hi! I use version 3.01, and the issue mentioned here persists. Also I would like to note that not only print areas, but ALL page settings are lost (Landscape, Alignment of tables, headers, footers, etc.), when copying a sheet to a new location. This is really a major drawback compared to MS Excel. I suggest implementing checkboxes in the move/copy sheet Dialogue Box, thus giving the option to chose, whether or not print areas and page settings should copy over or not. Regards Not duplicate, but somehow related is issue #105170 "Document doesn't contain print range of the underlying template" *** Issue 93706 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. *** It's time to fix this. I have a client who I've successfully transitioned to OpenOffice.org from MS Office who is thinking of turning back because her print ranges don't copy when she makes a copy of a worksheet. After converting the production control department at my company to use OpenOffice, this is one of the bugs they cited as severely interrupting their workflow. A couple months later I had to switch them back to MS office :( then surely some of you can afford to provide a development resource to come up with a patch? Yes, actually, I could ask my employer for some money to use as a bug bounty for this one. I'm not sure how much I could get, but I could ask. What is the best way to proceed? Is there someone here who is willing to write the code? If so, what resources would you need? kohai, bobthehamster: No, no programming skills here, though I'd love to learn if just to support my fav projects. I don't know about bug bounty because I haven't seen it work effectively with this project. The best way to get a bug fixed (that I can think of) is to buy support from one of the support providers, and get it fixed through the support channel. That way your bug will get higher priority. For example, Sun, Novell, Red Hat (and probably others) all provide support for OOo. I work for Novell, and I too fix our customer bugs with higher priority. In my company we are intended to use Open Office. But if we cannot print copied sheets, we will not make the switch from Excel. Most of my worksheets have 'Print Entire Sheet'. I copy them as a template and modify the information. When I go to print, most of the time I forget to set the print range since Excel automatically does this. Why not have each sheet have it's own print range? Why not have the print range set to 'Print Entire Sheet' when a sheet is copied? |
