Hello 1) open new sreadsheet 2) double click (left) on a register (eg.: "Table 2") => in MS-Excel the rename dialog is shown. in OO nothing happens It would be cool to have the same reaction. Best Regards Bruno Grossniklaus

Hint: ALT+Click works fine (inplace editing).

alt+click doesn't work on linux. Window manager (metacity or others) will move the window with ALT pressed and mouse click/drag. Please implement renaming as in Excel if possible, without dialog box, directly in sheet name tab.

I agree about making work like Excel and gnumeric. L

Please add the F2 shortcut key to renaming the active sheet when the sheet's tab has a focus, just like it works in Excel.
It would also be useful if the Edit -> Sheet menu included a Rename entry.

Double-click should replace the Alt+clic behaviour.

13 duplicates of this topic and 7 votes mean that this is a frequently requested feature. Hence Alt+Click works fine, I think it would not be too hard task to implement the doubleclick renaming issue. Is it possible to do something in order to step in this direction?
FWIW, in version 2.2.0 on Ubuntu Feisty, double-clicking shows the rename dialog. It isn't as nice as being able to rename directly in the sheet tab, but it's a start. L
FL->NN: Could we please add it as it is a standard behavior to rename the table in that way (Draw already supports this behavior). Thank you! Workaround: ALT+Click already activates edit mode of tab like in Draw. Slow double click is not supported.
Please note that there is a patch already attached to the following issue http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=45245 which was closed as dupe but the patch was left forgotten. I'll attach the latest patch from ooo-build in a moment.

This still does not work in 3.0RC3 - in 2.4.1 this function is available by double click. Did anyone forget to implement the patch?

Did anyone forget to implement the patch? Oh dear... I hope this doesn't apply to other bug fixes as well. Aren't we on 3.0RC4 now?
This hasn't been integrated yet, for any version. If you've seen it, it was in a version built by someone else. We should add it to one of the next versions.
I added the patch to CWS "calc47".
