Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17787
Add Button "Print Preview" to Print Dialog
Last modified: 2017-05-20 09:56:12 UTC
When one clicks print, a print window opens. It would be nice to have a button here which lets the user directly go to print-preview and page-setup. Same thing for the print-preview window and page-setup window. (I hope this is only one feature and not counted as three...if so I will be happy to open 3 bug enhancements. Regards, Edward
Would it not suffice that Print Preview lets you decide to print it? That takes care of print from within print-preview. By clicking on File > Print Setup, you can set up what you want. There is also a button to change margins and other settings for printing the page. Please take a look at these in RC2 and see if that works. (Sorry, I'm not a developer or QA person, just someone interested in seeing that OOo is the best Office program out there.) If it still doesn't provide what you want, please let us know. I think there may be only one thing you lack instead of three because you can use Page Preview to do almost everything you mention.
Thanks Robert but when I print directly from page preview, it prints all the pages not just the preview page. At the moment lets say I have about 10 sheets in a spreadsheet and I have made my workings in sheet 4 and in all individual sheets, I have defined a print range as this will help me store "fit to page" etc settings for each sheet. This file is worked upon every month. Lets say in this month I have to reprint data which is on sheet 6 only. What I need to do is go to page 6 and do print preview, from that print preview I take the page number and then go to file, print and enter that page number there. This page number will not be 6 but will be 5 or something else depending upon how many print ranges are defined in individual sheets. If the spreadsheet application can tell the sheet number(which it does now) and the print page number when I am in a particular sheet(which it does not at the moment) this will also solve the issue, I beleive. This can be further enhanced by showing a different colour box of the print range. Regards, Edward
not an API issue, seems to be a spreadsheet app issue
Under writer this feature works fine...for example if I am on page 3 of a writer document containing 5 pages, and I go to print, the selection automatically puts page 3 there and not 1-5.
Hi Bettina, one4you
Summary: When one clicks print, a print window opens. It would be nice to have a button here which lets the user directly go to print-preview and page-setup. This issue is considered for OO.o later.
I too would like this feature especially when printing a selection I would like to be able to see right before I hit print what my selected cells are going to turn out like on paper.
I was also surprised to find that printing directly from Print Preview printed all ranges on all the spreadsheets in the workbook. I set up my spreadsheet options for printing to "Print only selected sheets" because many of my spreadsheet files are one sheet per month, consolidating on a Year to Date sheet. Naturally, I only want to print the current month and YTD at any given time. If printing from Print Preview honoured this preference, it would solve the printing ambiguity.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
This issue really needs attention. I've also found it counter-intuitive that when I want to print a selection of cells, Calc has absolutely no way of showing the results without (potentially) wasting paper. I work around this by first printing it to a virtual printer like Cute PDF, but again, there aught to be just that simple 'Print Preview' button in the print dialog box.
AOO has a print preview in the print dialog, so the original request has become obsolete. For all the rest please submit additional Issue reports if still reproducible with current AOO versions.
