Given the following 10 cells

 1, 3
 2, 6
 [blank], [blank]
 -1, 4
  3, -2

Excel 2007 will plot this as 2 disconnected line segments.

OpenOffice connects through the blank cells as if they weren't there producing 3
connected line segments.

wrong component, changed to Chart.
Probably a duplicate and IMHO not a defect.

AS fst said, its not a bug its a feature. See issue 65549 for more details.

The approach currently taken is reasonable and logical in its own right. However
if an important objective is Microsoft compatibility in order to leverage that
large market, then a decision to handle this in a substantially different
fashion thwarts MS compatibility.

I would like to use OpenOffice in lieu of MS. Unfortunately this breaks the
compatibility for collaboration I have to deal with.

The missing feature to choose between different options to handle empty cells is
already implemented for OOo 3.1 with issue 65549.
